Q: I have been planting my onion plants from late February to mid-March. When should I plant Texas Legends in El Paso County, Texas? Based on that date, when do I need to order these onions from you? Your advice is appreciated! Thanks! We recommend planting in early February for your area.

Q: I live in central Texas (Zone 8b). I planted these last Nov. (2019) and had a great harvest May/June. However, I'd like to have onions earlier as well as maybe a late fall crop. Would it be feasible to plant them a bit earlier like October then another batch in, say, March? Gets warm here early - 80's and 90's by late April - and I was concerned it might affect their flavor. Thanks
Onions require lengthening days so here in the northern hemisphere planting in the fall and having expectations of harvesting a late fall crop just can't be done. if you plant in October and again in March (of the same variety), both plantings will be harvested within weeks of each other. The first planting will be much larger than the second planting.
