Q: I live near the Oregon coast surrounded by forest. I try to garden in raised beds full of compost, but only get sun for maybe 5 to 6 hours a day due to the trees and our temps are rarely above 65. I am in zone 9a. Do you think I would be able to grow Candy onions? (please say yes, I am desperate) If not, maybe you can suggest another onion that may suit me better. Thank you. Yes, Candy will be an excellent choice. If you plant onions in areas that receive that much shade it will delay the maturity of varieties but will allow you to plant intermediate day onions in your area.

A: I'm in North Carolina, so the temperature is a Lot different. But my garden tets only 5-7 hours of sun a day. Last year I was a first time buyer of Dixondale Farm onion plants, and I get the mixed white-yellow-red plants. I followed the planting instructions provided and all 3 varieties wildly exceeded my expectations. For the low cost, I'd say to buy the mixed plants and take a chance. Charlotte, NC

Q: Hi, I live in zone 7a when would be the best time to plant and what date do I choose for the shipping date? Look at our zip code chart and go by the first three digits of your zip code chart.
