Wondeful onions

We just harvested the short day sampler onions we purchased in December. The instructions provided are easy to follow, and every single plant grew. We have quite a few very large onions of each variety. I will definitely purchase again this fall. Thank you!

I'm into my second year of ordering the Short Day Samplers. I'm just North of Atlanta, GA. I plant about 250 plants 4 - 6 inches apart. Pretty close together. The sprouted bunches I get from Dixondale look great, a few runts, but of the plants I use, I get a near 100% successful plant rate. They take a lot of fertilizer, especially the red ones, if you want them to be successful, and no weeds. I lose some at harvest due to a 'basil plate disease' (?) which the internet tells me might be in my soil and hard to get rid of. The onions get mushy right as they come out of the ground, I'll keep moving them around the garden, but anyway, it's definitely worth the effort and a little bit of heart break because the onions are delicious. It's December now and I still have onions from July. The red onions are so hot you start crying if you get within 3 feet of them. haha, and the White ones are so delectable, they are like their own unique vegetable. DixonDale has been so helpful, their customer service, their information base, and product is top notch. It's not Advanced Gardening to grow onions, they are really a basic necessity. Just watch that plant date - winter or so......Good luck!

Just harvested today from this sampler which were planted out around first week of Jan '16. They all look beautiful and grew very easily for me without disease or pests here in the Mojave area of Calif. The yellows range from 2.5" to 4", whites from 2.5" to 3.5", and the reds with a wide range of 1.5" to 3.5". Haven't eaten any yet but if they taste as good as they look they should be lovely. Very happy with Dixondale Farms and I will be purchasing again.

I ordered in October and planted mid December. The Texas sweet are the best, the others did not grow so well for me. Next year I will order strictly the Texas sweet as they grew nicely and the flavor is unbeatable. Goodyear, AZ

Ordered the sampler and have been enjoying tending to them in the garden. The reds seem to mature first, and I have some drying now. Getting ready to harvest the others but already planning my next order. They send a very nice quantity and the seedlings are very healthy. Yes, I have become an onion plant addict! Florida

I once boiled and ate a couple of whole onions because I had nothing else to eat. They were good with some salt. Now they sell dehydrated onion chips, at nearly twenty dollars a pound, in the bulk section at HEB but a dollar's worth will make you smile and feel a little bit better than you did before you ate them. Onions rule, leeks are geeks, but I like them too.Austin, Tx

Great harvest this year. Still have 5 lbs in storage and its time to plant again. I'm in Southern AZ purchased several bunches of your short season sampler and even after eating alot as green onions and giving some away I still ended up with over 25 lbs to get me through the summer. I'm ready for more. Thanks

I really enjoy Dixondale. I am short day and have ordered the sampler, texas supersweet, candy. All have performed and grown beautifully. I do agree with the review above that the red doesn't always grow as strongly as the others. I plant closly and eat the thinnings. Its all good. I live in Southern California, 10 minutes west of the hot, dry desert. I keep them watered, cut the blossom as it starts and leave them in the ground even after the tops fall over and store them there in the ground and pick as needed.

Always strong healthy plants. I get mixed results with the reds, they sometimes do not fill out strongly but all perform great in my dry coastal garden. fast service and great selection!

Fantastic White and Yellow; Disappointing Red

I purchased the short day sampler for my parents living in So.California. The whites and yellows formed fantastic sized bulbs (avg 1 lb. each); the reds mostly bolted which reduced bulb size to no bigger than 1.5" in diameter.

I always get the sampler. It's just the right amount and variety. The white onions, which are supposed to be hard to grow, always do the best for some reason. I don't have to buy onions from may until Thanksgiving. I'll grow them every year.
