WE HAVE BEEN PLANTING CANDY ONIONS FOR SEVERAL YEARS, CUSTOMERS LOVE THEM. I LIKE PLANTING THEM ON SMALL RIDGES, AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE ABOUT THE MIDDLE OF MARCH. OR EARLIER, ON GOOD HUMUS SOIL. AN OLD BARN LOT IS EXCELLENT, I PUT THEM 6 TO 8 INCHES APART IN ROWS ABOUT 20 INCHES, SO I CAN RUN THE TILLER BETWEEN ROWS, I PUT DOWN 12-12-12 FERTILIZER, PLANT THEM ABOUT 1 INCH DEEP. AFTER 3 WEEKS I PUT MIRACLE GROW HIGH NITROGEN 24-6-6 ABOUT ONCE A WEEK & USE A SPRINKLER IF NEEDED. ITS A THRILL TO PULL THEM 6-7 INCH ONIONS, SURE MAKES MY DAY, AND I,LL BE READY FOR NEXT YEAR. GOOD LUCK. Smithboro, Illinois
