Let them cure properly to have exceptionally red rings that look great on salads. This is the sweetest red onion available for short day areas. We improved this variety to have more disease resistance and keep it from bolting.

When I got these plants they looked a little small. However they produced large, beautiful sweet red onions that were a real hit with our customers. The color is deep red - purple and is a great addition to or farmer's market sales. One shopper who told me he doesn't really like onions came back and bought these week after week! They are delicious. Beaufort, SC

I was having trouble with them bolting also, I contacted Dixondale and was advised to plant a month earlier than I usually do. This year not one bolted, got 5"+ onions, best red onion I have ever ate!!!
- Southern Belle Tops

About 40% of my southern belles threw tops this year vs. almost none for the Contessas or Texas SS. They seem to throw more every year .
