I grow these for my farmers market sales, and also for our home use. I harvested last years crop in September and we still have a few for our own use now in April. they should last until about May 1st. That's over 7 months of onions, big and great eating, highly recommand.

Very easy to grow. In my soils and conditions produced a nice hot flavor. Good for cooking, but maybe a bit to hot for slicing.

Grew well in north central PA in 2008. Large onion. Holding well in storage.
Big Daddy a Keeper?

This was the third year I have grown Big Daddy in the intermediate region. (southern Virginia). It bulbs well producing mostly 3in specimens alongside Candy which matured a week earlier and made mostly 4in bulbs. Of the four varieties I grew BD was the only one to exhibit a significant number of bulbs showing the beginnings of spoilage when pulled. BD is a nice flavored onion but not a great keeper. I have found three months to be close to the limit before a significant number of spoiled bulbs turn up.
Last chance for Big Daddy

2nd year in a row that Big Daddy turned in a complete crop failure for us. While Mars, Red Zeph, Copra, Cippolini did fine in adjacent rows, Big Daddy started well and effectively stopped growing after 1 month. Harvest again is only a basket of yellow pencils. Admittedly it was a difficult year in eastern MA. Although we have had success with this variety in past years, we'll find better use for the row space in the future.

Last yr (good growing weather) BDs were excellent; this yr near Albany NY we had severe hail storm & too much rain, but succeeded in curing most onions, though nothing like last yr; will try again, since FM customers love them.

2nd year grown here in southern Oregon. Does very well. Makes very good onion rings. Storage not a problem as they are eaten very quickly by neighbors and friends. Followed planting instructions and use drip irrigation. Have had no problems.
